Holiday Gift Guide’s Giveaway-A-Day: Sleepypod Air® *ENDED*

Have pets, will travel!  When traveling with your pets you need to be confident that they are safely buckled in, whether by air or car.  If your pets mean as much to you as mine do, you treat them like they are your children.  That means protecting them from unfortunate accidents.  Let’s hope this doesn’t happen to you but taking certain precautions are important to keeping them safe.

Early this year I was lucky enough to review a Sleepypod Air®.  You can click here to see my entire review but I will duplicate some of the information I posted here.  The Sleepypod Air I reviewed was donated to a group that transports.  As you know, a lot of products I review here are donated back to my local 501 (c) 3 pet charities.

Since my review, Sleepypod Air has received a couple of prestigious Editors’ Choice Awards from Dog Fancy and Cat Fancy magazines, recognizing Sleepypod Air as the best product of 2010. :Applause:  Once you get a good look at the Sleepypod Air, and read all about it, it won’t surprise you that this honor has been given to them.

We reviewed several new carriers for our Editors’ Choice Awards, and the Sleepypod Air stood out for thoughtful design features,’’ says Ernie Slone, Dog Fancy magazine editor. “The breathable mesh makes it comfortable for pets, but also easy to conform to differing airline under-seat storage requirements. The carrier is easy to secure to rolling luggage, and hidden straps also make it a snap to fasten to car seatbelts, adding a measure of safety.’’

See the demonstration video directly below.

Sleepypod Air’s revolutionary, patent pending design allows you to easily slip the carrier under your airline seat, but then you can expand it after take-off.  Airlines restrict pet travel carriers to specific sizes, so Sleepypod Air set out to make a carrier that not only meets the specifications, but to make it super comfy for your furkids.

If you are traveling by car, you can feel comfortable in knowing that the Sleepypod and Sleepypod Mini has your pet protected as much as possible.  They hired JARI, Japan Automobile Research Institute, to crash test their award winning product.

Directly from Sleepypod Air’s safety page:

Currently, there is no legal standard for crash-worthiness of carriers or car restraint systems for pets. A likely analogy is the standard set for crash-worthiness of child safety seats. The current requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 213, which subjects child safety seats to the decelerations they would experience in a severe vehicle crash, is that all child safety seats manufactured for use in the United States must pass a 30 mph frontal crash test.

The test at 30.6 mph (49.3 km/h) tossed the Sleepypod around while still staying in strapped in, but that is not good enough for us to call it a success. By doing this research we are able to constantly improve our products and ensure they are the safest pet carriers available.

IMPORTANT!
At Sleepypod, it is our intention to provide safer travel products for our customers. But we cannot, however, guarantee that injuries will not occur. Please read and understand the product instructions before using your Sleepypod in a vehicle. We recommend securing your Sleepypod in a rear seat rather than in a front seat in case of airbag deployment. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding safety.

Want to keep your pet warm while traveling by car?  You can purchase a warmer, which comes with a 12V car adapter.

The award-winning Sleepypod and Sleepypod Air are great products for on-the-go travelers, who want to keep their pets cozy and safe. Sleepypod Air comes in five colors; Jet Black, Dark Chocolate, Orange Dream, Glacier Silver and Strawberry Red. Sleepypod comes in six colors; Jet Black, Strawberry Red, Sky Blue, Dark Chocolate, Arctic White and Blossom Pink. Prices vary by product.

This would be perfect for my travels down to Mexico every year to visit my mom and dad :) I used to travel with my cat in the plane and always found the carry on bags a bit difficult. Now I have my dachshund Moxie and would love to have a carry on crate that makes it easier to travel with him :)

Wow, that is awesome! As you can imagine, we do a lot of traveling with our dogs. I don’t always want to put a crate in the back of my small car but I don’t want them bouncing around loose either. Our dogs are really too small to have in the front seat anyway because of the air bags. What a great way to keep them safe. and the heater unit, they’d never want to get out of the car! I’m a subscriber and like both of you on FB.
