The Forever Friends Great Dane Rescue asks: Can You Help Ruby?

Ruby came into Forever Friends Great Dane Rescue about 3 weeks ago. She was abused as a puppy and suffered a broken jaw. Her jaw healed with out any medical attention and has grown improperly. The right side of her jaw actually stopped growing while the left side has continued to grow as she has. As it has run out of room in in mouth, it has torqued and twisted 45 degrees. She also has severe nerve damage to the right side of her face that causes her tongue to hang out of her mouth. Ruby has adapted to her current conditions and lives a relatively normal life. She has gained an amazing amount of weight while in foster care, eats like a champ, plays like a puppy, and loves like no other.

This Shows Ruby’s Head Injury

She lives like she doesn’t know she is any different…but she is and always will be. Ruby will have surgery to cap off a tooth that has grown through the roof of her mouth. It has created a hole in the roof of her mouth and causes her pain and drooling. Without the surgery she runs the risk of infection and continued pain.

She will have to continue to have yearly x-rays to make sure the tooth stays alive and viable. The doctor will also clean and close the hole in the roof of her mouth. Once this is done, Ruby will be able to eat with less pain and her drooling will be minimized. She will always have more issues than others, but this should help. Once Ruby recovers from this surgery and is spayed, she will be available for adoption. She will need to be loved by a home that understands dogs with special needs. Ruby also needs a custom made feeder as she prefers her food to be at approximately 15 inches and her water to be at about 24 inches.

Ruby’s UTI is healing so her surgery is scheduled :( She will be going in on Monday, March 26th! Please start the prayers. I highly doubt anything can stop this little peanut but it is always safer when our prayers are answered!

Watch our FB page for updates. We will be having a reception for Ruby where everyone will have a chance to meet this amazing puppy and the doctors that have taken such wonderful care of her!!!
