I am a big fan of eco-friendly dog beds and when I first learned about Pet Lifestyle and You (P.L.A.Y.) I was drawn to their unique dog bed designs before I even knew that they made eco-friendly beds. When searching for dog beds, you will find a lot of flat colors, two-toned designs and well – lots of boring stuff. I’m not saying that is a bad thing because trying to match your dog beds with the color of your curtains or furniture works for most. I get that – I have beds like that. However, these beds go way beyond that.
Using artists from San Fransisco, New York and Los Angeles, P.L.A.Y. brings style and comfort together for luxury dog beds at comparable prices. They create artistic patterns using modern, hip designs that are pleasing to the eye and are available in a variety of colors that work well with any home. In fact, these designer beds are a great accent piece for any room.
100% cotton covers – now THAT’S comfort! Dogs sleep between 12-18 hours a day. The amount of sleep they get depends on their age, activity level, and their size. So, when you think about how much they sleep, having a comfortable bed should be one of the most important things to consider. Cotton is hypoallergenic and dust-mite resistant, so it is great for dogs like Millie and Kiko who suffer from allergies. It is also breathable (better air circulation), as well as being a biodegradable and renewable resource. Having better air circulation that cotton covers provide definitely helps, especially right now where a lot of us are seeing record highs.
I think we all try to do our part in trying to make the planet a cleaner place by recycling, purchasing eco-friendly products and so on. While P.L.A.Y. states, “we’d never claim that we can solve this problem on our own. But in our own small way, we’re straightening things out.” they are certainly doing their part in helping keep our planet a little cleaner and happier. By using their very own Planet Fill™ polyfiber (100-percent post-consumer, certified-safe recycled plastic bottles) for the stuffing in their beds they are making a difference one bed at a time. To see how many bottles are used in their beds click here and scroll down to see their chart. I’m certainly impressed!
P.L.A.Y. offers a number of dog beds in various shapes and sizes. Their designs began with one local artist in San Fransisco but has expanded to several – each bringing their unique ideas to each bed.
Lots of choices to be had for their Artist Collection and Original Collection dog beds! Whether you want luxury, fun or simple, their selections has something for everyone.
P.L.A.Y. wanted to make sure dogs of all sizes were covered, especially those medium dogs who are a wee bit big for the small beds and a tad too small for the large beds. It’s kind of like being the middle child. A few of the beds offered can be purchased for Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.
Some of you may already know that we donate pet beds we receive here to review. P.L.A.Y. gave us an opportunity to use one of their beds for this review and we were delighted! This gave me an opportunity to really check out their product and give my honest opinions to all of you. Kiko made herself quite comfortable on the bed and didn’t want to give it up so easily, especially since this was taken last week when she was having such a terrible time with her allergies. After some coaxing, she finally got off the bed! Actually, she was more than happy to donate it!
Footprints comes in Small and Medium and is available in Khaki/Chocolate or Steel Blue/Pearl. Like some of the other P.L.A.Y. Dog Beds, you can choose the Bed & Cover or the Cover only. Having this option certainly makes the shopping even more fun at P.L.A.Y. because you can purchase the Bed & Cover and then purchase different covers to switch out whenever the mood hits you. In the picture above you can see how thick the bed is and unlike other beds, it keeps from dimpling in the middle. It’s an easy bed to fluff to keep its shape.
Kiko is trying out the medium size in the photos above. She weighs between 20-25 lbs., so this will give you an idea of the size but you can also check out the sizing recommendations they have posted on their website. From the details posted online: The Footprint artwork created exclusively for P.L.A.Y. by SF local artist and dog-lover David Collins. Unique, non-repeating design makes your pet feel super-special.
All around the bed are footprints and pawprints, showing the strong bond between dogs and their humans.

P.L.A.Y. has a wide-variety of pawsome beds to choose from for our large 4-legged friends – like the Great Dane, Mastiff and Rottweiler.
The Warm Bellies Initiative:
There are millions of pets that end up in shelters and rescues every year. They all come from different situations – some used to have loving families and were given up for various reasons, while others are simply strays. No matter what the reason is – it is a stressful place to be. I have seen the anxiety a lot of these pets can have from being at a noisy shelter and sometimes a comfortable bed can bring some calm. P.L.A.Y. has partnered with PetFinder.com to help supply dogs with a comfortable place to sleep – a warm belly.
From their website:
At P.L.A.Y., we are committed to helping animals in need. We believe that every pet, regardless of whether they are a celebrity pooch or a pup waiting in a shelter for his forever home, deserves a warm and cozy place to sleep. To help as many homeless pets as possible, we’re partnering with the Petfinder Foundation for our new donation program; the Warm Bellies Initiative.
For every Artist or Original Collection pet bed purchased on www.PetPlay.com (or at participating retailers) we will donate a Special Edition Chill Pad to a pup in need.*
*Valid on full price purchases only
To ensure that we help rescue groups and shelters around the country, we’ve identified nine different regions in the US; each month we will donate to a different region. The Petfinder Foundation and P.L.A.Y. will determine which shelter or rescue group will receive the donation based on need and availability.
Our customers and fans will also have a say in which shelters receive the Chill Pads! Every quarter we will hold a “Voter’s Choice” where our Facebook fans can nominate and vote for their favorite rescue group. If you have a shelter you would like to nominate, please email us at GivingBack@petplay.com.
While P.L.A.Y. is a fairly new company, they are quickly becoming one of THE places to shop for quality pet beds.
Disclaimer: I received a pet bed from P.L.A.Y. to donate and volunteered to review and give my honest opinions here. The dog bed is being donated to the Southside Animal Shelter in Indianapolis, IN. To learn more about the shelter click here.
