Friday’s Focus: Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue

Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue is a 501(c)3 organization that serves Northwest Florida, Alabama, and sometimes into Louisiana.  They are an all volunteer non-profit group.  The volunteers house the rescues in their homes where they receive vet care that brings them up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and spay/neutered.  Recently, they have had a couple fosters come in that required much further vetting beyond the normal (lengthy antibiotics, surgery, etc)  This has caused their reserve to quickly become depleted.

Before being placed into a new home, the prospective adopters undergo a screening as well.  We perform a home visit, obtain permission from the landlord (in the event of renters), and verify past vet references.  Our adoption fees vary, depending on the amount that has been spent by the rescue to get the dogs the required vet care.  Often times, we spend more on vetting them than we get for the adoption.

They are holding an auction from now until September 9, which will allow them to pay down the outstanding balance with the very understanding veterinarian and will fund the initial vet expenses for incoming fosters.
