Over the past few years I have had some really scarey moments with my health. It’s gotten a little better but not completely. It all started when I had a laparoscopy in 2003 and then again in 2007 because of endometriosis and fibroid tumors. It just continued to go down hill from there. Not only was I going through some severe female health issues, but my back started giving me more problems. I was diagnosed with scoliosis at an early age and had to wear a brace 23 hours a day. Can you imagine being in middle school and being teased constantly about a back brace? It was pretty awful, to say the least.
So, I finally had a hysterectomy and was thrown into early menopause. The first six months were horrible for me; restless legs, night sweats, hot and cold flashes, depression, all of which wreaked havoc on me and my sleep. When I did sleep it was only 2-4 hours and I felt like a zombie during the day. My Dr. put me on an estrogen patch, which landed me in the hospital with a blood clot in my upper intestine a short time after I started using them. Not fun – at all! In the meantime, my back continued to get worse. I had some x-rays, a bone density scan and an MRI. That is when they discovered two bulging discs, degenerative disc disease, oesteopenia in my hips and my spine was at a 40 degree curve. In addition to that, I was diagnosed with RA. This was discovered after my hands started cramping. Now I just found out that labs I had done last week show something going on with my thyroid, so I am waiting on a referral to see an endocrinologist.
So – why am I telling you all of this and what does it have to do with Monavé? Well, there are a few things that put a smile on my face, even when I feel at my lowest, and looking good is one of them. I discovered Monavé Mineral Makeup a few years back and there are many reasons why they are one of my favorite brands. I have very sensitive skin and Monavé not only works well with my sensitive skin, but they have a shade that is my perfect match. I can’t tell you how important that is to me. I’ve tried tons of different foundations and Monavé is the only brand that has my perfect match. Usually, I find something that either makes me look a little orange or drastically white.
Not only do they have a perfectly matched foundation for my skin’s color, but Monavé’s Loose Mineral Foundation is truly a mineral makeup! A lot of big brand makeup companies are jumping on the mineral makeup bandwagon, so you really need to read the lists of ingredients to be sure that you are actually getting what you want (and what you pay for).
Deborah Bilezikian, President, Founder, Goddess – not only cares about women and making sure we all find our inner peace, but she is also very supportive of businesses started by women. She says, “Women who work for themselves can provide greater income for their families and achieve greater satisfaction at the end of the day. Many of our wholesale vendors handcraft and sell soaps and lotions, so I offer education and instruction on crafting mineral makeup, to enable them to have a complete product line. I hope that I can make the road that I traveled much less rocky than it was when I started on this journey.” You can learn all about how to make mineral makeup here. Take a look around – who knows – you might even decide to create your own line of cosmetics! It’s something I’ve considered but I just feel like my hands are already full, actually, they are overflowing. However, it is always at the back of my mind and well, you never know.
I have a few favorites I want to share with you but I encourage you to try some out for yourself because that is truly the only way you will be able to find out what works for you.
So, I received a nice little gift pack, which contained a Loose Mineral Foundation, a couple shades of their Versatile Mineral Shadows, a vegan Lip Glaze and sample size Lip Stick, also vegan, and two brushes.
My Loose Mineral Foundation(Price: Full Size: $19.50 Full Size Plus Refill: $29.50 Sample Size: $2.50 Weight: 9-10 g Volume: 30 g) color is Claire. I also have a jar of their Mineral Bronzer(#302) (Price: Full size = $12.00 Sample Baggie = $1.00 Weight: 3 grams Volume: 10 grams) that I use to highlight around my cheeks, nose, chin and forehead. The Loose Mineral Foundation stays put all day long, so I don’t have to worry about reapplying or touching up at all throughout the day. The coverage I get is awesome and I never have any issues with burning, irritation or inflammation. I did have that problem with another company that claimed their product was 100% mineral makeup! Pfft – I don’t think so!
The Versatile Mineral Powders (Price: 1-5: $7.50 each, 6-stack: $30.00, 12-stack: $60.00 (includes free gloss) Weight: 1 grams Volume: 5 grams) can be used as eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush nail polish and even lipstick, if you mix it with a clear gloss. Below are some photos of how I create a smoky eye. The colors I used are #62, #71, #75, #94.
Monavé does NO animal testing and in fact, the only animal by-product that is used is beeswax in their potted and liquid gloss. The key to perfect lips is lip liner (Price $11.50).
Here I am using Lip Glaze #167 ($13.00).
So, I mentioned above that one of the things that puts a smile on my face is looking good, right? Well, it goes a little beyond just putting makeup on. You have to feel good about what you are wearing and you have to have supportive people around you. If you head over to the Monavé Friends group on Facebook you will find a lot of women over there who are very supportive of each other. While I haven’t made any announcements over there about the stuff I have been dealing with, this post is my first step. I’m 43 years old and I shouldn’t feel like I am 93, so starting today, I am going to make an effort to make myself feel good; I am going to start eating better, set time aside for myself, spend more quality time with my family, learn ways I can reduce stress in my life and so on. I am going to make a difference in how I feel every day.
One (1) winner will receive three (3) Versatile Mineral Powders in spring colors and one (1) Lip Stick in winner’s choice of lip stick color.
February 22 – March 16 (midnight)
